Gods Of The Golden Dawn
Whenever it was possible the two of us would just sit in the temple after one of the ceremonies, especially if was the 0=0 ceremony. That window of experience where the temple current was closed down, but the Gods still remained, standing in silence, incense still hanging in the air. To just sit in that place of power and exist in that moment outside of space and time.
Visibly the temple was dormant with the pillars in place,
the tablets covered, and the altar bare except for the red cross and white
triangle.
Invisibly, if one closed their eyes and had the sight, the
temple as awash in colors. Radiant colors streaming off the Gods standing at
the stations, a pillar or white light emanating from the cross and triangle,
raising to the ceiling and beyond.
To just sit there with the eyes closed in that moment.
Did you just see that? asked my friend.
My response took a few seconds to process as it left me
quite startled.
I did, and I think it’s time we go.
At first I had a problem with the Gods of the Golden Dawn,
which completely stemmed from my religious upbringing, and was imposed on me by
myself. These where Gods of Egypt, and later other cultures from antiquity, and
that was antithesis to how I grew up.
This was different compared to studying mythology and ancient
cultures in college, or watching some movies, this was magic, and the Gods are
a component of that.
Nobody had told me just what the Gods were in the Golden
Dawn, as that was just a part of the temple culture. One may stand with others
when approaching the mysteries, but resolving them was a very personal affair. Conversations
with some of the temple adepts followed Hermetic tradition no matter how much
you pressed them. Any question or statement one made was met with a question in
return.
I was elated when I found an answer outside of the temple,
from another member of the G.D.. Apparently the Gods were psychological
constructs, manifestations of the forces of the universe, an ancient kind of
psychology. The Gods were neatly put in place when viewed through the modern G.D.
lens of psychology. It made them work, and for some time after I felt I had
made much progress in the temple.
When I asked the temple adepts about this revelation,
expecting further questions from them to explore, all I was met with was
silence and listening to my explanations.
Psychology wasn’t just what we called *magic* in this day
and age?
No matter, it worked, and that was all that mattered right?
Then it happened in one of those after moments just sitting
in the temple. Eyes, closed the Gods aflame, one of them turned and asked me a
question.
Well, it was more of a statement.
Psychological constructs were not supposed to do that, and clearly
that wasn’t just in my mind, since my friend had seen and heard the same thing,
later relief beyond relief that the God wasn’t speaking to them.
So who are the Gods of the Golden Dawn?
I don’t know, and I feel that is the best place to be.
They are a mystery, and I just can’t say with any assurance
just who or what they are.
All I can really say is that they are their own thing unique
to the G.D., and a mystery is best. A mystery can be anything in the moment,
what you need when you need it, and what you really need when you are not
asking for it
A mystery means we can step outside of space and time in the
temple, stand before the Gods, and steal fire from Heaven.
